ESCAP provides the most inclusive platform for governments to meet and discuss social development issues in Asia and the Pacific. It also organizes expert group meetings, capacity-building workshops and related events.

Expert Group Meeting Asia-Pacific Population and Development Report 2023
The Social Development Division of ESCAP and the Asia Pacific Regional Office of UNFPA co-organized an Expert Group Meeting (EGM) on the “Asia-Pacific Population and Development Report 2023” which took place at the United Nations Conference Center in Bangkok from 13 to 14 June 2023.
Strengthening older persons’ labour force participation and benefitting from the Fourth Industrial Revolution in Asia and the Pacific: Malaysia National Workshop
In 2023, one in seven people are aged 60 years or older in Asia and the Pacific. By 2050, one in four people are projected to belong to this age group. In Malaysia, about 12 per cent of the total population are currently 60 years or older. By 2040, that number is projected to increase to about 18 per cent.
Expert Group Meeting and Capacity-building Workshop: Strengthening national capacities for evidence-based policymaking to implement the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration in North and Central Asia
In 2020, there were almost 18 million international migrants residing in North and Central Asia, and over 21 million migrants from the subregion were residing outside their countries of birth.
Regional Commissions Side Event on the margins of the 61st session of the Commission for Social Development - Leaving No One Behind at the Regional Level: Adopting an Age-Sensitive Lens to Policymaking
Population ageing is a global and regional megatrend, presenting opportunities and challenges to sustainable development. In 2021 and 2022, Regional Commissions supported member States in reviewing national policies and programmes on population ageing. They organized regional reviews and appraisals, bringing together member States and non-government stakeholders to discuss achievements, lessons learned, emerging issues and gaps in policy implementation.
Commemoration of International Day of Older Persons 2022
ESCAP commemorated the International Day of Older Persons on 30 September 2022, 12.00-13.45, Bangkok time. This year’s theme is “The Resilience and Contributions of Older Women in Asia and the Pacific.” ESCAP organized a special event consisting of a presentation on the situation of the region’s older women and an expert panel discussion. Committee on Social Development, Seventh Session
The Committee on Social Development, Seventh Session was held at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok from 6 to 8 September 2022. The Committee session was held virtually via videoconference and in-person for participants who were able to attend the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok.
