Workshop on “Using ICTs to support older persons in managing chronic diseases”
Population ageing is one of the megatrends affecting sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region. In the region, the number of older persons is expected to increase from an estimated 548 million in 2019 to nearly 1.3 billion by 2050. By then, one in four people in the region is expected to be over 60 years old.

The Asia-Pacific region is home to more than 60 per cent of the world’s population and is undergoing profound demographic shifts with important implications for sustainable development in the region. In 2018, ESCAP, along with other regional commissions of the United Nations, undertook regional reviews of progress towards the policies and actions laid out in the Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development.
