Fourth Asia-Pacific Review and Appraisal of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing

Overview

To facilitate the Fourth Asia-Pacific Review and Appraisal of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing (MIPAA), ESCAP conducted a voluntary survey to member States on progress in implementation of MIPAA in 2021/2022. The survey gave member States an opportunity to identify achievements and remaining gaps in implementation of MIPAA through a national review using a bottom-up approach. Survey responses are highlighted here: Voluntary National Survey Response.

The Asia-Pacific Intergovernmental Meeting on the Fourth Review and Appraisal of the Madrid International Plan of Action took place 29 June to 1 July 2022 in Bangkok.

Consultations

Three informal consultations of ESCAP member states were held prior to the intergovernmental meeting:

Four stakeholder consultations, held between April and June 2022, addressed all MIPAA priority directions through discussions on older persons and development, health and well‑being, enabling and supportive environments, and specific issues affecting the Pacific, while dedicated briefings informed stakeholders about population ageing trends and opportunities to engage in the review process. Together, these activities enabled meaningful participation by civil society, older persons’ organizations, and other stakeholders. The outcomes of the stakeholder consultations can be accessed HERE.
