ESCAP provides the most inclusive platform for governments to meet and discuss social development issues in Asia and the Pacific. It also organizes expert group meetings, capacity-building workshops and related events.

Population and Development at the 75th Session of the ESCAP Commission

In the region, the number of older persons is expected to increase from an estimated 548 million in 2019 to nearly 1.3 billion by 2050. By then, one in four people in the region is expected to be over 60 years old.

In 2018, ESCAP, along with other regional commissions of the United Nations, undertook regional reviews of progress towards the policies and actions laid out in the Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development.
