Expert Group Meeting and Capacity-building Workshop: Strengthening the evidence base on migration in North and Central Asia
International migration is an important feature of economies and societies of North and Central Asia. In 2020, there were almost 18 million international migrants residing in North and Central Asia, and over 21 million migrants from the subregion were residing outside their countries of birth.
Training Workshop on National Inclusion Accounts Methodology
This training workshop is part of the UN Development Account project titled “Inclusive and Sustainable Economic Growth in a Society for All Ages in the Post-COVID-19 Era in Asia and Latin America and the Caribbean.” The project, implemented by UN DESA, ECLAC and ESCAP, aims to strengthen capacities in eight pilot countries: Colombia, Costa Rica, Jamaica, Uruguay, the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Malaysia, Maldives and Viet Nam, to utilize National Inclusion Accounts (NIAs) for evidence-based policymaking.

Asia-Pacific Regional Conference on Population Ageing: Technology and Population Ageing sessions
ESCAP, in partnership with HelpAge India, was organizing two sessions on technology and population ageing at the 2024 Asia-Pacific Regional Conference on Population Ageing. This Conference was co-hosted by HelpAge International, the Ministry of National Development Planning (BAPPENAS) of Indonesia and UNFPA, and supported by Age International, ESCAP and the Tsao Foundation. The overarching theme of the Conference was “Reframing Ageing,” with a focus on mainstreaming ageing in national development plans and recognizing older persons as valuable contributors to society. These sessions specifically explored how technological innovations can help reframe and redefine the societal roles of older persons, not just as beneficiaries but as active participants and innovators in the digital realm.
Seminar on Policies and Good Practices in Addressing Challenges and Opportunities to Population Ageing and Safeguarding the Rights of Older Persons
This pre-Conference seminar, organized by the Social Development Division, ESCAP, in partnership with the Ministry of National Development Planning of Indonesia, aimed to bring together government focal points on ageing and representatives of academia, civil society and United Nations entities to discuss policies and good practices in addressing population ageing.
Regional workshop on re-designing a policy dashboard on ageing in Asia and the Pacific
The workshop, organized by the Social Development Division of ESCAP as part of the Regional Meeting on Enhancing Digital Literacy among Older Persons in Asia and the Pacific, was held on 1-2 August 2024 in Beijing, China. This workshop focused on the interactive development and refinement of the ESCAP Policy Dashboard on Ageing. It aimed to bring together government focal points on ageing, alongside representatives from academia, civil society, and United Nations entities, to discuss policies and good practices that address population ageing. Participants had the opportunity to provide direct feedback and contribute to redesigning the policy dashboard, making it a more effective and user-friendly tool for policymakers and stakeholders alike.
