ESCAP provides the most inclusive platform for governments to meet and discuss social development issues in Asia and the Pacific. It also organizes expert group meetings, capacity-building workshops and related events.

Fifth Asia-Pacific Review and Appraisal of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing: Briefings of focal points on ageing in North and Central Asia
ESCAP will hold briefings of focal points on ageing, nominated by Governments of members and associated members to (a) build capacity of focal points to conduct national reviews of implementation of MIPAA (b) enable them to assess the status of national implementation of each priority direction of MIPAA and identify areas of strengths and gaps, and (c) share good practices and experience in MIPAA implementation among focal points on ageing.
The briefing will include presentations by ESCAP and its member States, on a voluntary basis, reporting on their experiences with the MIPAA review and appraisal process, as well as an interactive discussion. The briefing will be conducted virtually. Countries are invited to share their experiences and good practices in conducting national reviews and appraisal and in completing the survey.
Pursuant to ECOSOC resolution 2025/8, the survey provides an opportunity for ESCAP member States to assess their national policies and programmes on population ageing, and its results will inform the Fifth Review and Appraisal of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing (MIPAA) at regional level.

Regional Workshop on Developing Health Systems that are Equitable and Sustainable, and Responsive to Demographic Change
The Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), in partnership with the Philippines Commission on Population and Development, organized the Regional Workshop on Developing Health Systems that are Equitable and Sustainable, and Responsive to Demographic Change, in Manila, Philippines, on 5 and 6 February 2026. This consultation formed part of the CPD-ESCAP partnership aimed at strengthening national capacity for developing and implementing comprehensive policies for older persons.
National Consultation for the Promotion of Policies on Ageing in the Philippines
The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) was supporting the Commission on Population and Development (CPD) of the Philippines, in organizing an in-person National Consultation for the Promotion of Policies on Ageing in the Philippines, in Manila from 3 to 4 February 2026. This consultation formed part of the CPD-ESCAP partnership aimed at strengthening national capacity for developing and implementing comprehensive policies for older persons.
